Admiring Alexa Hampton…

I had the pleasure of attending  Kravet’s Blogfest 2012 this week and had a really great time– I learned a lot and was fortunate to hear some truly great and inspirational speakers in the design and publishing business as well as see beautiful design inspiration.

One of the highlights for me was when Anne Maine, Editor in Chief of  TRADITIONAL HOME, interviewed interior designer Alexa Hampton who runs Mark Hampton LLC.   The interview was so entertaining and Alexa Hampton is such an interesting and humorous speaker— she has such a great ease about her and such great stories to tell about her life.  Alexa is clearly very smart and witty– I could have listened to her tell stories of growing up as the daughter of a world famous interior designer for hours.   She could truly have her own talk show all about life and style.

While I can appreciate all styles of design, I definitely do not lean towards classic “traditional.”  However, after becoming enamoured with Alexa Hampton, I took a closer look at some of the rooms she has created and designed and I have new affection for this style.   I have long admired Alexa’s work in magazines and she is an incredible interior designer who has taken classical “traditional” style and really brought it forward for today’s consumers and families.  Take a look at these images of some of Alexa’s work, via pinterest:

I absolutely love this entrance–

There are so many exquisite details in this entrance from floor to ceiling–

I  love the mix of colors here-

This bedroom is so calm and serene… and gorgeous!

And how can I resist a little pop of orange?  These rooms have a great flow and I love the soft gray color throughout…  this is my kind of traditional!

What do you think of these rooms?  Are you an Alexa Hampton fan too?  Is this your kind of “traditional?”  I’d love to know…

What I’m Loving Lately…

Ok, I am back… after a way too long blogging hiatus….  I can list a million reasons why– most of which, was that I was very busy with clients, as well as planning my most favorite design job to date, styling my family and the venue for my son’s very “orange” Bar Mitzvah…

But the bottom line is… I am sorry and I am back…

Anyway, lately I find myself absolutely loving brass accents and furniture in a room.  It adds hollywood regency glamour and a retro 70′s vibe– which together give a very “cool” feeling to any room– dining room, living room, bedroom, even bathrooms….

I absolutely love this table base and the vintage chairs–  they look so amazing with the dark lacquered walls.  I just love this entire room, everything about it!

Mastercraft made some of the best brass furniture back in the 1970′s- and many of their great pieces can be found on ebay and 1stdibs.com today—

These table bases below look very similar to the table bases above and may even be the exactly the same– they can be found on 1stdibs.com.

Mastercraft also made interesting wall decor:

This vintage Mastercraft dining chair can be reupholstered in a rich velvet or a funky geometric pattern and have an entirely new look.

I am actually thinking about purchasing these greek key chairs to reupholster… I am obsessed!!

A brass cocktail table can add an element of shine to a dark or light room– I can see these tables in a warm dark den as well as in an all white modern living room.

I am also loving brass accents and hardware in new kitchens– it adds dimension to all white kitchens and can add a vintage/traditional element and also a modern feel depending on how you incorporate it into your design…

I love the flushmount brass lighting and the hicks pendant light over the sink and the simple, yet brass, hardware in this kitchen-

Look at these large brass handles on the refrigerator– LOVE!!  Did you notice the brass toe kick?  AGAIN… LOVE!!

What do you think of brass accents and furniture?  With the popularity of chrome finishes these days, would you incorporate any brass into your home?   I’d love to know….

Cindy

Yesterday’s post did not go through- here it is again…

FROM SWEET LITTLE GIRL’S ROOM TO AAAHHHHH…

Although this room is not completely finished yet, I could not wait to show you how incredibly this room has transformed.  What was once a sweet little girl’s room is now a peaceful paradise for a beautiful pre-teen.

BEFORE

AND AFTER

I am in love with this wallpaper!

Notice the mirrored closet doors– a great touch to make the room look bigger, aside from the convenience and additional element of shine.

While this change is quite dramatic, it was not overly expensive.  Once we decided on this gorgeous lavender Cole and Son pompeiian wallpaper, all we needed from there were some high-gloss and high shine furniture pieces from West Elm and Cb2, a great shag carpet and coordinating accessories.  This room does not require much else and is a perfect case for “less is more.”

When you walk in this room, you just feel a sense of calm— I am thrilled that my adorable client loves her new room.

What do you think?  I’d love to know….

Best,

Cindy

Design Inspiration that just happens to be… ORANGE!

Take a look at this gorgeous master bathroom– of course I love the orange tile, but look at the hardware on the vanity– I love the modern accents with the vintage style mirror.

via HGTV.com designed by Jaymes Richardson

This piece would look very different with other hardware—-it just shows how you can make a great statement in a room with small finishing touches.  You can even change the look of a room just by changing the hardware or accent pieces….. or color…..

If you have time, check out the designer’s Civility Design website– they have many other beautiful and colorful rooms to see.

What do you think of the color?  The hardware?  I’d love to know…

Cindy
